Club Chairman, David Thomas (G4HHJ) gave an illustrated talk to its members in March on homemade beam antennas.  The talk covered the history of the discovery of electro- magnetic waves and their successful propagation by Marconi.

Different designs of antenna arrays were explained before addressing the practicalities of home construction using a wide range of materials.

These include supports made from thick plastic, aluminium strengthening plates, wooden booms supporting fibreglass poles holding wire.

The message was clear ‘the greater use of DIY components the bigger sense of achievement when it works’.
